Flowers or Guava Fingers?
Ernesto courted me with flowers, chocolates and poems. A guava finger won my heart.
By Mireya Báez
Flowers are, without a doubt, a universal symbol of love, affection and emotional connection in a relationship. Giving flowers is a gesture whose purpose is to bring happiness. The red rose is the flower of romantic love and passion par excellence, while white flowers stand for sincere love, respect, purity, innocence and forgiveness. Jewelry, such as rings, bracelets and necklaces, is also given as a symbol of love. The list of objects and details to express this feeling can be endless.
Could a guava finger win a heart?
But would you think that a few fingers of guava (bocadillo wrapped in puff pastry) could conquer a person's heart? Of course it is possible. It is my personal case.
Ernesto, the flowers and his mother's guava fingers
Ernesto, my husband, courted me for years with flowers, chocolates, poems and acrostics. None of that drew me to him more than enjoying the delicious, freshly baked guava fingers his mother prepared. He held back his own desire to eat them just to bring them to me, wrapped in a napkin, every day. I looked forward to his visit because I knew I would enjoy a double pleasure: being with him and savoring those incomparable guava fingers, which I still taste with great pleasure, just as on the first day I tried them.
